The Fourth Estate honors journalistic excellence and innovation through various contests open to professional, collegiate and high school journalists and news organizations in all forms of media.

The Fourth Estate Award for Public Service Journalism

Given annually the Fourth Estate Award for Public Service Journalism is dedicated to honoring excellence in original journalism in the public interest. Winners receive a cash award and a custom plaque.

Who is eligible?

Any professional digital, radio, broadcast or print journalist who works for any news organization, news outlet, news service; or individuals, including freelance journalists, with a demonstrated record of reporting and journalism in the public’s interest.

What is the process for nominations?

Nominations for the Fourth Estate Award for Public Service Journalism may be made by anyone, inside or outside of the journalism profession. Nominations for the award will open until February 28th 2016. The winner will be announced at the annual Journalism unConference at the end of March.

Infographic and Data Journalism Award

This annual award is presented in cooperation with the Visual Story Telling Institute for excellence in the use of infographics and data visualization in public journalism.

Open to any currently enrolled high school student, this is an annual contest and award for the best 500 word (+/-) essay that describes the importance of the Fourth Estate in modern society.
